World Congress of the Society for Tennis Medicine and Science 2013
The 13º STSM World Congress was held in Buenos Aires on February 13-15 th, in conjunction with the Argentine Tennis Association (AAT) and the Nixus Foundation. During three days, the most renowned international physicians and other scientists met at the Panamericano Hotel to discuss the most relevant medical issues of tennis players.

“The scientific program was designed to address medical problems of tennis players of all ages and levels. We have encouraged a close interaction between speakers and attendants, as well

as a multidisciplinary approach “, said Dr. Javier Maquirriain (Congress Chairman).

There were 145 participants, 18 international speakers, and 29 national speakers. Fifteen countries were represented: Germany, Argentine, Brazil, Canada, France, Ecuador, Nicaragua, Japan, USA, Hungry, Qatar, Venezuela, Sweden, Colombia, and Belgium. The congress included 13 Symposiums, 10 plenary lecturers, 5 Work-Shops and a Research Forum.

“It was probably the best Tennis Medicine Congress”, said Todd Ellenbecker (ATP Tour Medical Director).





International Course of Sports Injury Prevention

On December 7, 2013 Nixus organized an International Theoretical-Practical Course on "Mal-Alignment Syndromes in Athletes" at the auditorium of the Argentine Sports Information Centre (CeNARD, National Ministry of Sports), with the support of the Foundation Pedro Mosoteguy. The main speaker was Carl Petersen, renowned physiotherapist graduate of the University of British Columbia (Vancouver, Canada). This international course provided an excellent opportunity practical training for Argentine colleagues on a topic of increasing relevance.




Edition of the Journal of Medicine and Science in Tennis (JMST)
JMST is the official publication of the Society for Tennis Medicine and Science since 1991. The Nixus Foundation edits and publishes the quarterly journal since 2009.



Medical Evaluations of the Wheelchair National Tennis Team

On Thursday December 11th, 2014 Nixus and the AAT performed medical evaluations of the best wheelchairs tennis players. The activity was led by Dr. Javier Maquirriain, who along with other specialists of the CeNARD performed high complexity cardiac studies (photo), orthopedic assessments, biomechanical and ophthalmologic tests (photo).












Update on Travel Medicine and Anti-doping
On Thursday 12.11.2014 Nixus and the AAT organized an educational activity for players, parents and coaches in the auditorium of the Argentine Sports Information Centre. First, Dr. Viviana Gallego (renowned specialist in Travel Medicine) discussed the current requirements in vaccination and other measures of disease prevention in travelling athletes. Subsequently, Dr. Javier Maquirriain updated the new Anti-Doping Code which comes into effect in 2015 and major changes in the list of banned substances.
